Thu, 19 February 2009 JUNG PODCAST #28 - INDIVIDUATION 3In this episode I continue with Murray Stein's stage 2 (adapting/adjusting) of individuation, with an emphasis on some of the extremes of behaviour that occur in adolescence. I use ideas from Klein and Blos to expand on these behaviours. Comments[1] |
I'm a little confused with individuation in adolescents, because adults seem to fit into not dressing the norm given what environment and culture they've grow into partly because that's all they've known like a kid in the 70's that still listens to punk they may still retain certain aspects of it thought their psyche has assimilated. But the main problem is they have also assimilated into a consumer culture as through the rights of passage getting a car and being able to buy alcohol. Consumer culture as a whole does not give awareness to adolescents as a growth movement but distinguishes it and incriminates upon stereotypes and even defining the individual through such characteristics in a psychology denotes a standardization of individuation. It seems that in assessing the individual we outline it using a prescribed method of assumption. I think that is where complexes evolve in the consumer culture. Our culture disregards scared text and the spiritual nature of the soul and its growth.
